Universal design: Classrooms where every child belongs and learns with dignity.
Children with disabilities in rural Rwanda face severe physical, pedagogical, and social barriers to educational access. Many are kept at home due to pervasive stigma or schools lacking accessible infrastructure.
The Disability and Inclusion Programme integrates mobile clinical screening camps, assistive device provision, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) training for classroom teachers across 640 partner schools.
Delivered with clinical and specialized disability organizations, this initiative proves that with the right assistive aids, modified physical classroom environments, and differentiated pedagogical routines, learners with severe disabilities can excel alongside their peers.
